OPTICAL TOUCH SCREENS
Accuracy. Clarity. Economy.

See your products in a whole new light.  Experience them at a whole new level.  With its rigorous accuracy, crystal clear resolution, and surprising affordability, Optical Touch makes every product shine.

By using optical sensors at two corners of the screen, Optical Touch “sees” the touching object from two angles. The result is extreme accuracy, with no contact pressure required.  No special coatings and films are needed—there’s nothing to scratch, wear out, or cloud the display image.  The screen can be sealed against dirt, dust, and moisture, ideal for heavily used kiosks in public areas.

Multi-touch capable.  Optical Touch accommodates multiple touch points with exceptional precision. You can touch the screen anywhere, with anything—a finger, a pen, a credit card.  Even the lightest touch will be registered.  Annotations are fast and precise.

How it works

  • Working together, two optical sensors track the movement of any object close to the surface by detecting the interruption of an infra-red light source. The light is emitted in a plane across the surface of the screen and can be either active (infra-red LED) or passive (special reflective surfaces).
  • At the heart of the system is a printed circuit controller board that receives signals from the optical sensors.  Its software then compensates for optical distortions and triangulates the position of the touching object with extreme accuracy.
  • The infrared light source and optical sensors are synchronized using a sophisticated algorithm that also eliminates the effect of ambient light, creating an extremely clear, accurate screen.

External Add-on Touch frame (Overlay Touch)

  • The overlay uses a robust design to provide touch solutions suitable for high-traffic, public environments. This model connects through a plug-and-play HID-compliant USB interface for power + connectivity. Easily turn any large Plasma or LCD into an interactive touch screen. The system integrator or end user can install it over a monitot, without the need to open the display's enclosure and possibly void warranties. The lightweight overlay screen is Windows 7, Mac OS, Linux, Vista and XP compatible.
  • For end-users to easily mount onto a standard LCD or plasma monitor, converting it into a fully functional, interactive touch screen.
    Traditional sizes: 30, 32, 37, 40, 42, 46, 50, 52, 57, 58, 61", 65" for LCD / PDP.
  • Ideal for business meetings and classrooms, it allows executives and teachers to create more dynamic, engaging presentations. The large, clear screen can be seen by everyone in the room. Presenters can efficiently move through interactive material just by touching the screen, eliminating the distraction of a keyboard.

.Typical Applications:

  • Digital signage
  • Kiosks
  • Interactive education
  • Conferences

.Features

  • Fits large format display screens from 30” to 65”
  • Multi-touch capable (actions such as tap, pinch and swipe allow you to select, resize and pan.
  • Once-only calibration, four-points with no drift
  • Optical Touch technology for exceptional clarity and accuracy
  • Clear glass for maximum clarity
  • HID-compliant USB plug-and-play or serial interface

Surface coating overlays are not used on the touch screen surface, which creates a crystal clear image. In addition, scratches on the touch surface will not affect the touch screen operation. This is important for high-use environments such as a lobby or Kiosk.

Optical imaging provides a solution without calibration drift. Once the touch screen has been calibrated it does not require any further adjustment. This means virtually zero maintenance costs.

.Multi-touch

Touch technology is intuitive—simply touch the screen to get what you want.  Multi-touch takes the experience to the next level.  Multi-touch allows you to use more than one finger (or any object) to stretch, rotate, or shrink an object, scroll through menus, and efficiently operate any software program.  Multi-touch goes beyond the capabilities of any traditional pointing device, allowing you to tap into the potential of this cutting edge technology.

As multi-touch functionality grows in popularity, more applications become available to take advantage of its capabilities. In addition to applications for PCs and kiosks, multi-touch is especially well-suited for entertainment and multimedia programs.
Working together better.

Large-format displays allow people to collaborate more efficiently, and multi-touch makes these systems even more intuitive and natural.  With multi-touch, users can:

  • Deliver presentations more professionally by integrating computer applications and multimedia sources with ease;
  • Annotate and highlight directly over existing applications on a plasma or LCD display;
  • Create interactivity that is more versatile, dynamic and engaging;
  • Resize and manipulate graphical information;
  • Pan, zoom and scroll through documents and websites.

Multi-touch for software developers
The Touch Application Program Interface (API) provides programmers with access to touch data generated by the Optical touch screen. It also provides derived touch information.  The API is in the form of a DLL that provides useful functions for application developers. Communications take place through an HID-compliant USB.

To assist software developers who are creating solutions for Windows 7, we provide a multi-touch driver.
